Whitby restaurants 'down a good 30 to 40 per cent'

Durham Region and Whitby escaped a pullback to Stage 2 -- at least by Oct. 27 but with rising COVID-19 cases that could change any day -- which comes as a relief to downtown businesses like 12welve Bistro and Tapwerks and Hive Local.

The owners of those businesses were able to breathe a welcome sigh of relief when Premier Doug Ford did not announce a pull back to far more restrictive measures that would have restricted inside dining, closed gyms and made other activities more difficult as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

John Allen, owner of 12welve Bistro and Tapwerks at 244 Brock St. S., admits business has been hurt for restaurants during the pandemic.
